Taos Pharmacy proudly introduces Nutri-Link®, our new nutritional information system. Now every time you fill a new prescription at Taos Pharmacy, you will receive an informational sheet regarding nutritional considerations with your medication and medical condition. This new service is intended to help you get the most out of your medical treatment and avoid dangerous interactions between your medication, vitamins, and herbs.
For example: did you know that when taking Zestril® for high blood pressure, you should avoid foods high in potassium? This drug also contributes to zinc deficiency and you may wish to supplement zinc. If you are taking magnesium and iron supplements you should separate them from your medication by at least 2 hours. Olive oil may help reduce blood pressure. You may have to reduce your medication should you start consuming large amounts of olive oil. CoQ10 may also reduce your blood pressure resulting in a need for a lower dose of medication. N-acetylcysteine may have an additive blood pressure lowering effect with this medication. Herbs such as alfalfa, angelica, dandelion, and sweet clover that have diuretic effects may lead to an excessive lowering of blood pressure. Natural licorice, ginseng, and ephedra may interfere with the blood pressure lowering effects of this medication. Capsaicin may increase the cough associated with ACE inhibitors and should be avoided.
Information of this nature will be provided with every new prescription you fill. We can also print this type of information for any other medication you may be on. At Taos Pharmacy we believe in the use of natural products. We also believe that it is our responsibility to help you use them safely when taking prescription medication. We feel that we can give you the most complete information regarding treatment for your condition. We can help you get the most out of your medication. See us for an evaluation if you would like to know which vitamins could be depleted by your medications or which herbs you should avoid.
