Column #44, 1/03/02
by Jake Mossman, Owner of Taos Pharmacy

A key component to weight management is regular exercise. It is often a challenge to maintain a regular exercise program without a significant expense in equipment or club memberships. There are ways of maintaining a regular exercise program at home without significant expense.

Exercise videos - There are a variety of exercise video tapes available. Many of them focus on specific goals. Cardiovascular health and relaxation are two areas of focus that would benefit most people.

Exercise balls - These are a recent innovation in exercise therapy. Designed to help with physical therapy, these are ideal for strengthening and toning abdominals, back, chest, arms, thighs, legs and buttocks. These devices help improve flexibility and stretching. They also improve balance and coordination. These low-impact devices are an excellent way to get a well-rounded workout. They are sold according to height.

Exercise bands - These elastic bands are sold in extra heavy, heavy, medium, and light resistance. These bands can be used for a full body workout including arm, leg, shoulder, back and abdominal strengthening and flexibility.
